Relocate or suffer

In the present climate, when so many dot.com companies are folding and market news gets worse by the day, it seems some can still buck the trend. How do they it?
Neutralize (*\*) an online marketing company founded in London in 1999, relocated to Cornwall in 2000, and have seen an increase in turnover of 65% over the last 12 months.
Lucy Cokes, Managing Director of Neutralize (*\*) says "We strategically located ourselves away from the central London scene to avoid dilution of our main objectives and also to reduce our overheads to a level where by we can compete successfully on an international level". In making the move they managed to slash 75% of their overheads, which they say gives them the margins to be competitive.
As well as working directly for clients, their main target customers are advertising agencies and web developers looking to outsource services. By gearing the company towards providing services that are 'white labeled' or 'resold' by other agencies under their own name they removed the requirement for localized or city based sales office. "It is the way to go" says Lucy "as the rest of the market place finds it harder to survive and many companies are forced to cut staffing levels, the demand for our way of working increases; in turn I think it gives the agencies we work for more flexibility".
It would seem that Neutralize (*\*) are not an isolated case; FutureStore, another company based in Cornwall who supply e-commerce software solutions, have also seen significant benefits and cost savings. Lawrence Brendish, a managing partner, believes that FutureStore is in a good position as they can afford to deliver more comprehensive packages to the SME sector than competitors that have higher running costs.
Interestingly both FutureStore and Neutralize (*\*) attribute the cost of supporting their online presences as a large factor in their cost cutting exercises. So the choice is yours, spend cash on bricks and mortar or invest it in technology that means you can work from anywhere.
