100 Companies to Benefit from a Review of Online Practises
August 08, 2002

A new grant scheme backed by Business Link and UK Online for Business has been launched helping Cornish businesses improve their use of E-business techniques and become more competitive online. It is being delivered in partnership by Neutralize (*\*) TM, a leading Internet and E-business marketing company and leading West Country chartered accountants Bishop Fleming.

After the success achieved last year when Neutralize (*\*) TM carried out the review on 40 SME's (small, medium enterprises), the opportunity has arisen for 100 Cornish companies to have an E-business Review that offers an independent and professional review of the businesses' current online practices, and identifies opportunities to improve performance.

The first step in each review involves the Business Development arm of Bishop Fleming carrying out an initial diagnostic, with a visit to the client's premises. Neutralize (*\*) TM then carries out a detailed review of the business's website, analysing and reviewing its online presence. A detailed report is then compiled to enable the business to implement the improvements identified within the review.

Lucy Cokes, Managing Director of Neutralize (*\*) TM said: "We are pleased to be able to work with Bishop Fleming and hope that our joint effort can really make a difference to Cornish businesses taking part in the grant scheme."

The review, which normally costs in excess of £1,200 is being heavily subsidised as a result of a funding partnership with Business Link Devon & Cornwall. This enables eligible small and medium size businesses with fewer than 250 employees to access this initiative for just £400 plus VAT.

Each review covers strategic objectives, marketing, operations, resources, hosting arrangements, domain name issues, search engine visibility, graphics, navigation and programming. Recommendations for improvements and suggested solutions to specific technical areas of concern are highlighted. In addition, guidance is given on maximising opportunities and enhancing overall e-business performance.

Ewan McClymont, who is driving the initiative on behalf of Bishop Fleming, said: "The use of e-business has grown rapidly in recent years. It is essential that firms down here in Cornwall, particularly in view of their geographical location, make the best use of the technology that is available and ensure they remain competitive in the market place.

"The E-business Review Grant offers many benefits to local firms. It provides a professional, independent and cost-effective diagnosis of their current e-business position.

"It will combine a full technical appraisal with a review of their business strategy and objectives, identifying opportunities and recommending actions that will help them achieve best practice and improve bottom-line performance. Now that Cornwall has access to Broadband, there has never been a better time to maximise e-business performance."
