Is your website
illegal?
November 5th, 2002
Does your business comply with the new 'Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002', which came into force on the 21st August 2002, if not you could face a fine and/or worse imprisonment.
The EC Directive applies to nearly all businesses advertising their products or services online and is intended to create consumer confidence by clarifying the rights and obligations of businesses and consumers. The implications of the directive are, that everyone operating online must now check their website against a tight set of criteria or potentially face legal action.
Businesses in Cornwall that require assistance with developing their business online or checking for compliance can apply to take part in the E-Business Review Grant Initiative, which was launched in August and provides up to £400 grant assistance for SME's towards a complete web review. It is aimed at helping businesses of all sizes improve their use of E-business techniques and become more competitive online.
Local companies that aren't eligible for grant assistance can still receive the service at a reduced rate.
The scheme is funded through Business Link, via the European Regional Development Agency and Objective One, and is being run in partnership with Bishop Fleming and Neutralize (*\*), specialists in business and internet issues.
Places on the scheme are limited so anyone wishing to take part is recommended to sign up quickly.
Further information on the E-business Review Grant Initiative is available from www.ireview.co.uk or telephone Ewan McClymont on 01872 275651.
